Indian Market Week: Where Art, Tradition & Green Chile Meet

Every August, Santa Fe becomes the center of the Native art world.

Collectors, museum curators, gallery owners, and art enthusiasts from around the globe gather for Santa Fe Indian Market, widely recognized as the largest and oldest juried Native American art market in the world. Hundreds of Native American artists representing tribal nations across North America fill the historic Plaza with extraordinary works of jewelry, pottery, basketry, textiles, paintings, sculpture, fashion, and more. For one incredible weekend, Santa Fe becomes a celebration of artistry, culture, heritage, and innovation.

For Santa Fe Sun Handmade, Indian Market is one of the highlights of the year.

It's an opportunity to connect with artists we've admired for years, meet exciting new talent, and experience firsthand the creativity that continues to make Native American art one of the most vibrant art forms anywhere in the world. Every booth tells a story. Every artist brings a unique perspective. And every year, we come home inspired—and with an even greater appreciation for the hands that create these remarkable works of art.

...The food.

No trip to northern New Mexico feels complete without breakfast at the Plaza Café, dinner at The Shed, an evening at La Plazuela, and at least one legendary green chile cheeseburger at Bell Tower Bar. Some traditions simply aren't meant to be broken.

And before we even reach Santa Fe, we'll make our customary stop at Jerry's Café in Gallup. If you've ever driven across western New Mexico, you know exactly why. It's one of those places that has become part of the journey—a tradition that simply wouldn't feel right to skip.

Throughout the week we'll share a few photos from Indian Market, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most exciting events in Native American art. If you can't make it to Santa Fe this year, we'll do our best to bring a little of the experience back to you.

So follow along as we spend a few days surrounded by extraordinary creativity, wonderful people, and enough red and green chile to make choosing "Christmas" feel like the easiest decision of the week.
