From the Author:
There’s a quiet kind of clarity that comes when you finally stop chasing what you think you should love—and start honoring what actually speaks to you.

For me, that journey didn’t begin with a business plan. It began much earlier—long before Santa Fe Sun Handmade existed—48 years ago, out on the open stretches of Route 66, the Mother Road. In my earlier reflections—The Mother Road and the Makers—I shared how those formative years shaped my eye, my instincts, and my appreciation for objects that carry soul.
Roadside stops weren’t just stops—they were introductions. To craft. To culture. To people who created not for trend, but for meaning.
That’s where it all started.
That sense of connection—to place, to story, to the hands behind the work—never left. It stayed quietly in the background until one day, it asked for more of my attention.
Eventually, it asked for everything.
Santa Fe Sun Handmade was built from that same feeling.
As we reach our one-year anniversary, I find myself reflecting not just on this past year, but on the full circle of that journey—from those early days along the Mother Road to building a space that honors the very spirit I was drawn to back then.
Working with Native artists has been one of the most meaningful parts of this path. It’s one thing to admire craftsmanship from a distance—it’s another to witness the intention behind it up close. There is a rhythm to their work that doesn’t rush. A respect for process that isn’t concerned with speed or scale. That alone has been a lesson in patience.
Not passive patience—but grounded, steady patience.
The kind that reminds you that what’s worth creating takes time.
There’s also a calmness in that approach. A quiet confidence. It’s not about chasing what’s next—it’s about honoring what’s now. That perspective has shifted how I move through both business and life. Less urgency. More intention.
And perseverance… that thread runs through everything.
This past year has had its challenges. Building something meaningful always does. But when you’re rooted in something that genuinely speaks to you—something that traces all the way back to where you began—giving up doesn’t really enter the conversation. You adjust. You learn. You continue forward.
That’s what this anniversary represents.
Not just a year of growth, but a year of alignment. A year of listening closely to that inner voice that first sparked somewhere along a desert highway, surrounded by makers who understood that what they were creating mattered.
If there’s anything this journey has reinforced, it’s this: when you find what truly speaks to you, you owe it your full attention. Your effort. Your time.
Because that’s where real contentment lives.
Not in the outcome—but in the act of building something that feels honest to who you are.
So this moment is both a reflection and a continuation. A reminder of where it all began, and a commitment to where it’s going.
Still rooted in story.
Still guided by intention.
Still following what speaks.
Still chasing passion.
